EULER Engine short description

At the core of the EULER Engine is the EDBM indexing and retrieval software, produced by Cellule MathDoc. Other important components are the user interface, which was developed using the Zope web application server and content management software, and a data normalization program, developed by CWI during the EULER project 1998-2000. Intergration of these components into the current EULER Engine was done at FIZ Karlsruhe during the EULER-TAKEUP project 2001-2002.

EDBM software
The EDBM software (European Database Manager for Mathematics) has been created by the Cellule MathDoc. The EDBM software offers different tools (indexer, update procedures, search and display engine), with important flexibility, easy customizations to different database schemes and user oriented output formats. One typical application is the Zentralblatt MATH database online access (through international, regional or local servers) for which the search and retrieval components (EDBM/W3) has been used worldwide for many years.

This software is copyrighted Cellule MathDoc (CMD), the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Université Joseph Fourier, Grenoble (UJF) and has been subject to contracts between various partners and UJF & CNRS granting the right to use the software developed by the CMD.

The Cellule MathDoc is a unit created in 1995 in Grenoble with the support of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Minist`ere de l'Education Nationale, de la Recherche et de la Technologie (M ´ ENRT) and the Université Joseph Fourier, Grenoble (UJF). Among other programmes, the CMD has been engaged in international cooperations. Two are specially relevant in the EULER context:

• the French-German cooperation with the partners FIZ Karlsruhe, Springer Verlag, Heidelberg Akademie der Wissenschaften on the Zentralblatt MATH database, in the framework of its transformation into a large European infrastructure for the mathematical community (since 1998, the European Mathematical Society is a partner of Zentralblatt-MATH, sharing its copyright with FIZ Karlsruhe and Springer Verlag).
• the Euler project (1998-2000), in which the CMD has been a partner. The CMD worked mainly on integration of OPACS (the mathematical libraries of Orsay and Strasbourg have been subcontractors) and preprints.
